"I really appreciate you taking the time to do this for me." Constable Robertson was sitting in the surveillance van with the technician.

"It's no skin off my nose. I don't mind skipping the red tape in a worthy cause, as long as you don't want to use the results in court, and anyone bugging teenagers is up to no good."

"Well, look at that! Someone is listening! I was about to give up for today. This is a commercial area, not a residential area."

"But there are a few small apartments available cheap."

"OK. Now RDF. And map that. Going by the strength, it's a couple of blocks or more. Now we move and triangulate."

"There we go, about 45° to the other path. We were practically on top of it."

"Can you check the vertical angle?"

"Sure, I suppose. You want to check what floor it's on?"

"Yeah. It's on the other side of the block. I think that's a 5 story commercial building, probably with apartments on the top floor."

"Is that important?"

"Could be. I think the top floor on the far side has a view of the store behind us."

The technician adjusted some levers, checking for a peak signal strength, then read off the angle. "Seems to be about 30° off the vertical, which clears the nearer building, but hits the one on the far side of the block."

"OK. They can probably see this store from an apartment up there."

"Any significance to this store?"

"Yeah. One of the kids they're bugging was mugged in the alley next to it."
