"Come on in, guys. Ummm, take your shoes off."

"Wow, Rodney! What a big entranceway! And really nice soft carpet in the living room!"

"Rodney?" The voice echoed from another room somewhere.

"Yes, Dad?"

A man bounded into the room, dressed in dark pinstripe suit pants, lightly striped dress shirt, and dark socks. His hair was very neat. His tie was loose and skew, and the top two buttons of his shirt were open. He was frowning slightly, as if perennially worried about something.

"Dad, I'd like you to meet my friends, Fred and John. Guys, my Dad, Mr. Ellsley."

They shook hands, Mr. Ellsley smiling absentmindedly at them with a polite "How do you do?"

"Rodney?" Mr. Ellsley still looked worried.

"Yes, Dad?" Rodney looked down at his dad - his Dad was tall, but Rodney was taller.

"I thought we agreed you and I were going to go for a walk together?"

"Great! Let's go. The guys won't mind."

"Sure! We won't mind."

"No trouble."

Fred and John started to move toward the door, but Rodney didn't turn to say goodbye; he was waiting for his Dad.

"Well, I'll be a few minutes. I have to finish this couple of paragraphs in my report."

"Rodney turned to the guys. "You have your shoes off already. Come on in and look around."

"I'll see you in a few minutes, Rodney." Mr. Ellsley turned to go write his report.

"Of course. See you in a few minutes."

Fred and John looked at each other. Rodney never put that much cheer into his voice.

As they walked down a long hall, Fred quietly asked Rodney, "Your dad isn't likely to some and get you any time soon, is he?"

Rodney grimaced, "No, he says he wants to do stuff with me, but he's always doing his reports. I'll show you guys my room and if he isn't here then, we can get on with planning."

"OK, guys, my Dad isn't coming, ;there's no bug on the window. Let's get on with it." Rodney stopped pacing and sat on the edge of his bed.

John nodded, "Yeah, this is our first chance to get together since exams ended last week. Let's use it if we can."

"Let's go over the things we know and then discuss what our options are, OK?" Fred suggested.

John and Rodney nodded, so Fred went on. "John, how about if you start."

"That makes sense, I suppose, since I'm the one that got hit on the head. There was a fire at a stadium in Antwerp, the first of 3 attacks so far in Europe."

"Yeah, but we don't know if that's related what's happening here in Canada."

"I know," said Fred, "but if we were sure we wouldn't be sitting here, we'd be blabbing to our parents, the cops and the army!" Fred waved a hand, dismissing that argument.

"OK," continued John, "then I got hurt at work and what my boss said didn't fit what I remembered."

"Yeah, he lied about where you were," interrupted Rodney indignantly, "and then your place and Fred's were bugged, probably by skinheads. We have copies of files from Paul's computer that make it look like Paul told them to do it."

"So what do we do?"
