CANADIAN HOT WHEELS REPORTS/COMMENTS

Canadian Collector Number cars confirmed November 27, 1999 Following last week's brouhaha surrounding the Ferrari 355 Challenge, local collectors did a little investigating on the matter of American Collector Number cars. American Hot Wheels cars have traditionally been re-released within a year or two on a plain card, but bearing a new paint scheme and a large "Collector Number" designation. While these numbered cards have not been seen in Canada, occasionally the cars have. Some of the blister packs you see that have plain blue stripes with white lettering bearing the car's name on the card actually correspond to their American Collector Numbered counterparts. The blue stripes were replaced with a black-to-blue fade earlier this year, and again with a red and orange checkered pattern (see article below). Armed with this information, our local team went to work. Below are the preliminary results. Evidence seems to suggest that some of the old blue stripe cards, all the black/blue fade cards, and all of the red checkered stripe cards so far correspond with U.S. collector numbers. So keep your eyes peeled, as we'll be moving the car listings from the "Mainline" section to take their rightful place under the new "Collector #" category.

Mysterious Hot Wheels found November 17, 1999 Among reports of new case assortments hitting the shelves recently comes an interesting new discovery. Several local collectors have reported finding a nifty silver sports car called "Ferrari 355 Challenge". The interesting part is its series designation... or lack thereof! Canadian Bonus Cars to be offered May 2, 1999 At long last, Canadian collectors will no longer need a U.S. postal box in order to receive Hot Wheels collector's posters and Myster Bonus Cars. Mattel Canada Inc. will finally take orders via their Ontario offices. A new car is available every two months from now until December, in exchange for 4 1999 series car cards plus $3 postage & handling. The poster will cost you $3, plus any 2 cards from 1999. And if the dollar continues the way it's going, we may have American collectors rushing to get postal boxes here in the Great White North! A Matchbox collector's poster is also being offered. Business as usual? March 23, 1999 After last year's numbering confusion, it's good to see that Mattel appears to have things pretty much straightened out for 1999. The first three cars out of the gate are all in agreement as to how many First Editions there will be: 26. And with the first batch being found as soon as early March, this bodes well for International collectors. Mattel had its distribution system in top shape last year for the unprecedented forty First Editions (in addition to the 12 regular series and Treasure Hunts). So far this has translated into Canadian stores being only 1 1/2 to 2 months behind in stock, as compared to their American counterparts. Let's hope this trend continues throughout the year.
